25th of August 2012

The day started off around 10:00am with a visit to the Polo Club to have a fly around & evaluate take-off & landing procedures.

For those who haven't checked it out yet, here are some photos:

There's lots of potential here & flying was no problem at all!

Then it was onto the turf farm for what turned out to be a mini open day with a visit from the Cairns Historic Car Club!

As always people just love to see & hear those jet turbines!

Anthony had his latest electric speed machine on display & it actually survived the day!

The Red Bull & MX2 came out for a fly.

Greg W brought out that beautiful Waco & put on an old fashioned barnstorming show!

Then from vintage cars to vintage models, James brought out an amazing scratch built 'Fly Baby' that was the star attraction of the day.

Lots of issues getting that engine to stay running but with looks like this who cares!

Lots of other folk came out for a fly a look or a chat including Bill, Graeme, Curtis, Dennis, Stuey, Pete, Michael, Brendan & Ricky!

See you all next week!

Cheers, Rob

18th of August 2012

Hot windy weather seemed to keep some folk at home, but for those of us who made the trip out to the turf farm there was plenty of good flying to be had!

James brought out his new P-47 Thunderbolt which looked superb & flew very nicely....

James put her through some very nice moves including some very scale looking rolls!

It was great to see (& hear) Paul's Falcon in action again!

(Unfortunately 'Glamorous Glen' (P-51) continues to have fuel mixture issues).

Greg W brought along his profile Yak but suffered a broken fuel tank mount early on.

We also saw Dennis who came for a chat & Bob who flew his electric Pitts & Spitfire.

Saturday also brought a couple of visitors in Bill, who hopes to get into the air in the next few months, & Michael who came armed & ready with a nice looking Boomerang II which had been built as a tail-dragger.

It was great to see both our club instructors jump into action with James assisting Michael with final set-ups & throws and then Greg W providing the flying instruction.

For a newbie Michael did very well with some solo time on the sticks.

See you next week.

Cheers, Rob

Mareeba Airshow - 12th of August 2012

The chaps from MASCOTNQ were kind enough to offer us some room at their display at the airshow, so after arriving in Mareeba at 7:30am to a temperature of three degrees, Anthony & Paul set up some very nice planes to impress the punters.

(Three degrees - now that's dedication)!

Anthony added some amazing signage & I brought up the flyers to hand out to promote our club.

(Well done to Glenda for showing us how you get those flyers into the hands of the public)!

The MASCOTNQ guys did an amazing job promoting aeromodelling & had flight sims set up along with lots of planes & choppers. They also ran a very sucessful raffle for a flight in a warbird!

And of course there was the amazing warbirds putting on a show along with some classic cars!

The mighty Trojan.

The Kittyhawk.

The Winjeel.

The Nanchang.

The Harvard.

Reproduction Spitfire.

A very nice Corvette.

The mighty DC-3.

This was a great opportunity to enjoy the warbirds as well as promoting our club.

Hope everybody has a good week!

Cheers, Rob

11th of August 2012

More great weather & a huge weekend of flying with our normal Saturday arvo get together along with the Mareeba Airshow on Sunday!

There is only one way to describe Saturday arvo - MASS DESTRUCTION!

That's Graeme's PC-9 in the foreground that I never seem to get a good photo of - sorry Graeme!

Greg W came out to play with a couple of nice aerobatic machines.

Paul is a new member who came out with a nice trainer which performed very well.

After a little instruction from James using the buddy cable Paul was flying like a pro!

Brendan brought out his freshly repaired Boomerang 60 as well as his F-22 Raptor. (More on the Boomerang later)!

James modelled his suggestion for the new club shirt. (You can vote on this design based on your thoughts under 'Club Polls' located in the main menu of our website).

OK, now the stuff you've been waiting for!

First was Anthony with what is becoming a habit for him lately!

Then followed by Greg G.

Then, not to be outdone, Brendan totally destroyed that Boomerang!

Check the next post for news from the Mareeba Airshow!
