Perfect weather at the turf farm yesterday meant a good turnout & some good flying.

 
If only we didn't have engine issues we would have seen a sky full of aircraft but as so often happens we spend our time trying to get the damn things to run!

The sunny conditions meant I was finally able to get some good photos of Paul's BF-109, both on the ground & in the air.

Paul was one of the pilots to have engine issues & a dead-stick landing did a fair bit of damage to the underside of the aircraft, but the good news is that it's definitely fixable.

James had a couple of good flights with his jet & has his landings sorted again.

Michael got a step closer to getting his Zero in the air & Steve tore up the sky with his SBach & also his new Rare Bare.

Curtis gave his chopper a workout & unfortunately Anthony lost his relatively new MXS.

Hopefully we have better luck next week.

Wet muddy conditions at the farm yesterday, with a sky that made it almost impossible to see where your aircraft was at times!

We still had the usual die-hards in attendence, & a couple of planes that failed to launch last week finally got airborne.

Due to conditions I didn't take many photos, but here's Paul's BF-109 just prior to a very successful maiden. It looks mean in the air too!

Fantastic to see Steve Cram back in action with his 50cc SBach (left of picture) & he put on a number of shows of precision aerobatics that kept the crowd smiling!

You can also see Anthony with his Mum Carmel who came out to enjoy the weather & kept the boys happy with fruit, biscuits & coffee!

Anthony had engine issues with his Chopper & Matt Hall, as well as a wheel falling off his Trojan just after take-off!

He landed the Trojan dead-stick, missing a wheel, without a scratch - well done mate!

Bill flew his chopper & James flew his P-47 & Scanner.

Dennis had a couple of flights with his electric craft but promises to get back onto his FW190 ASAP!

After we worked out that all was wrong with my DLE30 was a damaged hall effect sensor, which I replaced at the field, the Red Bull took to the air & had 3 perfect flights........so easy to fly!

Let's hope for better weather over the next few weeks!

With a full house & perfect weather, there was constant activity at the farm all afternoon.

Good to see the P-47 back in action.

Lots of interest in this beauty!

Unforturnately Paul battled technical gremlins all day & neither the Edge or the 109 were able to fly....at least we got to see the 109 taxi & she looked good!

Of course there had to be some drama & Greg's Edge decided it was a Concord mid flight & dropped its nose, whilst Michael got a "little" low flying inverted & ripped his rudder off after it tapped the ground resulting in a spiral dive into the ground!

Not as much flying as you might have expected on such a good day but it's hard to fly if you can't get your engine started!

Plenty of beers were enjoyed at the end of the day anyway & we get to try it all again next week!

Cairns Life Expo 11th & 12th of May 2013

Over the Mother's Day weekend we set up a fantastic display at the Cairns Life Expo which was manned by up to 4 CMAC members at all times.

The members kindly giving up their time to promote our sport & club to the Cairns public were:

A very special mention goes to Bill (Fingers) who provided transport for Shane's F-18 & two choppers to & from the venue - thanks Bill & thanks also to Shane who allowed us to display his amazing aircraft!

We had a flight sim set up which proved very popular with kids & Dark Jedi alike!

The level of interest & the crowd we drew was simply amazing!

We also ran a raffle to win a Boomerang II trainer which raised $400!

The winner was Ross & his son who are looking forward to getting into the sport ASAP!

Greg Wood was interviewed on radio live from the expo & we featured heavily in the Win News report on the show that was aired on the Monday night.

We had a chat with Councillor Robert Pyne who drew our raffle & that has led to futher discussions with Councillor Steve Brain about finally securing a permanent home for our club.

All in all a great effort & something the club should be very proud of!
